One of the most frustrating things that can happen is taking freshly prepared samples to an instrument just to discover it’s broken which is why properly maintaining laboratory equipment is of the utmost importance. Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind when you handle quality instruments-
Read the manual-
Although this may seem basic but keep in mind that before using any piece of lab equipment, you should read the manual. Briefly read the manual to assess how to use an instrument properly and discover options you did not know were available.
Clean it after use-Keep your instruments in pristine condition, as it prevents the build-up of potentially hazardous powders and liquids from clogging your instrumentation.
Inspect it frequently-You need to physically inspect your instruments throughout the year and run performance tests, so that you will be able to resolve potential issues before the instrument gets ruined.
Get trained on it-Training is the best way to learn how to use your medical and laboratory instruments properly. It is a worthy investment to train not only your own lab’s personnel but to actively identify and train others who may want to use the instrumentation.
Log usage of the equipment-It is important to keep track of who is using the equipment and what they are doing with it. This allows you to assess when the machine needs regular calibration/maintenance.
